When people see a 15 year old kid sharing a stage with Shane Smith, or a 16 year old opening for BJ Barham, they often ask themselves: HOW? To answer that, we have to go back to the beginning.
Ty grew up outside of Tulsa in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. His influences range from American Aquarium & Shane Smith and the Saints to William Clark Green & fellow natives Turnpike Troubadours.
Ty’s grandmother owned a live music venue, and he literally grew up on stage. Bands would let Ty play his toy guitar on stage with them, and a star was born.
Fast forward 6-7 years later, and he’s playing his own shows at local venues like The Hunt Club and Vanguard. He sang open-mic every year at MusicFest in Steamboat, and anywhere else he could. He started with covers, and soon began writing his own songs.
By age 15, he was headlining his own album release party at The Shrine in Tulsa with good friends The Teague Brothers Band. His self-titled album, “Ty Smith & the Minor Offenses,” has been well-received by red dirt and Texas country fans alike.
His first single, “Rocky Mountain Pines,” was released to radio in May of 2023. It went Top 40 on Texas country music charts, and currently has over 27,000 Spotify streams. His second single, “Wonderland,” was released to radio in September 2023, went Top 25 on charts, and also has over 27,000 Spotify streams. His most recent single, “Words I Should’ve Said,” was released to radio in March 2024, went Top 30 on charts, and has over 5,000 Spotify streams. New original music is set to be released in the fall of 2024 and into 2025.
His success on the charts has earned him nominations for TCMA Young Artist of the Year 2024 and Josie Award Young Male Adult Artist of the Year 2024.
In the summer of 2024, the band you see now was formed. It’s most versatile member Stephen Morgan, a talented guitarist and seasoned sound technician, currently plays bass guitar and sings background vocals. He gives the band its signature sound, and makes sure they sound good while doing it. Drummer Chris Holt does an amazing job of keeping the band on beat, and rhythm literally runs in his blood. His drummer father played opening gigs for Roy Orbison and Hank Williams Jr., just to name a few. Fretboard master Jeremy Neal plays lead guitar, and completes the band with his killer riffs and impressive solos.
With a soulful voice, powerful lyrics that are mature beyond his years, and a talented band behind him, Ty's Texas Country sound resonates with audiences. At 16, he’s already making a name for himself and his band in red dirt and Texas country music. Keep an eye on this one, because he’s just getting started
